I teach music at both Fort Dorchester Elementary and Flowertown Elementary.

We are coming to the end of the school year!  Here is what we are doing in music!

Kindergarten— We have been learning about dynamics—soft and loud, pitch—high and low.  We are learning some fun songs that celebrate spring.  We will also be introduced to what an orchestra is, as we have learned about many different instruments.  We will listen to and talk about an orchestral work called “Carnival of the Animals” by Saint-Saens.

First— We are focusing on singing.  We will take a look at pitches and keep practicing those solfege pitches that we know.  Do, Re, Mi, Fa, Sol, La, Ti, Do!  We have had a lot of fun with instruments—especially the Boomwhackers!  For the end of the year we will focus on rhythm and look at a musical staff and how to read music!

Third—  We learned about the musical “Seussical the Musical” and sang some fun songs from it.  We have been learning about the orchestra and all the different instruments that are in it. We will also take a look at Jazz music and the musician Duke Ellington.

Fourth— We learned about School House Rock and sang some fun songs from it.  At the end of the year we will be getting ready for 5th grade and recorders.  We will focus on rhythm and reading the musical staff.

Fifth Grade:  We have been busy learning about Blues Music and composing our own blues songs.  Before the school year is up we will learn about some other fun styles of American Music including Jazz and Rock and Roll.
